Cool kid on the block (or: 'Spring uniform')

✩ ChloĆ© silk-crepe top
✩ Sophie Bille-Brahe 'Eclipse simple' earring
✩ Rick Owens washed leather biker jacket
✩ Proenza Schouler Book Bag
Stella McCartney straight-leg pants
✩ Adidas Stan Smith sneakers

I think this is a really cool look, even though it seems a bit dated and a lot autumn-y on second glance. It's funny how luxe sport, although a current concept, seems dated only for the fact that everyone and their pet has adopted it. Nevertheless, I find it ideal for everyday wear - eye-catching yet comfortable.

Fall uniform

When I glimpsed at this Zara jumpsuit, I immediately started making imaginary outifits with it in my head. It has such a playful shape and seems comfortable - perfect for running errands around town. I matched it with a black hat, a white/red striped top and  a rusty colored bag, because they all give an autumn-y feel. I think the sneakers go very well with this type of baggy, cropped jumpsuit and keep the outfit from looking too polished, although I would pair it with black ballet flats as well.

The 2013 MET gala!

I loved the punk theme of this week's MET gala and I was glad to see so many celebrities playing along! Madonna and Sarah Jessica Parker in particular should definitely be commended for their bravery – their ensembles were theatrical but somehow managed to eschew the fancy-dress factor (which unfortunately cannot be said for some of the other attendees). There wasn’t any one dress that stood out for me but I really approved of the confections donned by Cara Delevigne, Karolina Kurkova, Emily Blunt, Miranda Kerr, Kate Bosworth, Emma Watson, Jaime King, Katy Holmes, and Mary-Kate Olsen. Notable mentions: Anne Hathaway for rocking a seriously cool new haircolour/hairstyle and Diane Kruger for adding subtle yet awesome details to her look: her earrings and the pink dip-dyed ends of her hair were great finishing touches!

Spring uniform

Spring uniform 2013

I compiled a spring uniform since it's that time of year (although the
weather seems not to have gotten that memo), with all the elements I
love: clean lines, sharp shapes, and a touch of colour to make things
interesting. What are your spring fashion staples?

Sonia Rykiel trousers
Club Monaco Bernice shirt
Phillip Lim flats
Celine Trio bag

Favourite model of the moment: Arizona Muse

I'll admit, I first heard about her because of her connection to Freja Beha Ericksen, but I recently decided to have a look at her Fashion Spot thread and was absolutely amazed! Arizona apparently appeared on the fashion scene radar in 2008 but took a break thereafter in order to have her son. A year and a half and one pretty haircut later she started making a name for herself in the industry. On her debut fashion week she walked numerous runways including Prada and landed various editorial jobs. She has already appeared in many campaigns (such as Yves Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton, and Isabel Marant) and magazine spreads (most recently in Vogue Paris). It was just announced that she will be the new face of Estee Lauder. I can't pinpoint what it is exactly that makes her so appealing - she's obviously very beautiful, but I think she also possesses an old Hollywood glamour and grace that translates great on the photographic lense. A good model must of course be a chameleon and Arizona definitely succeeds in that aspect in my opinion. I showed some pictures of her to my mum (granted in them Arizona sported drastically different hairdos) and she couldn't believe it was the same person! Moreover, if her interviews are anything to go by, Arizona seems genuinely down to earth and very serious about her work. She also participated in a fund-raising effort along with other famous models for the 'Doctors without borders' organization. I really hope Arizona will stay in the bussiness for many years to come and I look forward to see what the fashion future holds for her. Which are your favourite models of the moment? Best dressed at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival

Many highly anticipated films had their premiere at the 2012 Cannes film festival and naturally they were attended by the film industry’s crĆØme de la crĆØme. Among the stars invited to the numerous parties and red carpet events, Kirsten Dunst, Freida Pinto and Diane Kruger outdressed the rest in my opinion with their impeccable finesse. Carine Roitfeld, Nicole Kidman and Jessica Chastain also stood out for me. So without further ado, here are my favourite dresses from this year’s festival:

Brilliant new short film by Prada!

Prada revealed a short film yesterday at the Cannes film festival, directed by Roman Polanski and starring Helena Bonham Carter as a rich, blasĆ© woman and Ben Kingsley as her sombre psychoanalyst. The film revolves around their therapy session where Carter relates her latest dream, but the doctor seems more interested in her purple furry coat! It’s really funny, and it’s interesting to note that Kingsley never utters a word, yet steals the show with his performance. You can watch it here in the Prada website.

Inspiration: 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'

The fashion in 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' was impeccable and continues to inspire and scintillate even to this day. Even though the lifestyle of Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn's character in the film) may have had various ups and downs, she always carried herself off with style. Her outfits were mainly monochrome consisting of dresses and coats that were either black or brightly coloured, and were paired off with jewellery (anything except diamonds, as according to Holly diamonds did not befit someone her age), hats and sunglasses. If you wish to emulate the 'Holly look' to perfection, don't forget the bouffant hairdo and signature eyeliner, and you'll be ready to go!

The 2012 MET ball

I am not a fashion connoisseur but I could easily discern two prevalent themes in the attire of choice of last night’s MET ball’s attendees: feathers and peplums. Beyonce, Cate Blanchett, Diane Kruger and Kate Bosworth all wore dresses with feathers adorning the hem (or in Kate Bosworth’s case, the whole dress), while Elizabeth Banks, Emma Roberts, Eva Mendes, Linda Evangelista and Solanze Knowels chose peplum gowns – thankfully in different colours.

The ladies that stood out for me were the more understated ones; I loved Claire Danes in her white J. Mendel dress, Emily Blunt in her pink (and spring appropriate) Calvin Klein confection, and Ashley Greene in her princess-y Donna Karan gown. The exception to my demure-is-best rule were Rooney Mara’s Givenchy lace dress, Karolina Kurkova’s head-to-toe (literally!) golden ensemble and Emma Stone’s bright red/orange Lanvin cocktail dress.

As it inevitably happens, there were a few appearances that failed to impress me, notably Sarah Jessica Parker in a gown that resembled a tablecloth and Alexa Chung in a dress that couldn’t decide if it wanted to be a shirt-dress or sweetheart neckline dress. Also, Carey Mulligan’s metallic ensemble – it seemed really uncomfortable!

Overall, I don’t think there were any dresses that especially wowed me and I think most guests opted to play it safe rather than make a bold statement. What are your thoughts for this year’s MET ball fashion? Was there any dress you particularly liked or disliked?
